I have studied nutrition and exercise for the last 10 years, developing a strong passion for helping others build confidence in their own ability to make lifestyle changes. Health is not finite – it is an ongoing process. Oftentimes we know what we need to do, but we need a little help along the way. Together, we will identify and overcome your health-related obstacles and prioritize sustainable habits devoid of strict food rules. I offer a collaborative and inclusive approach focused on education and behavioral modification to set you up for long-term success.
Although I have a diverse background providing nutrition education for various populations and medical conditions, my specialty is sports nutrition. I have worked with two Division I sports nutrition programs, youth team sport athletes, competitive endurance athletes, and the Utah Warriors Major League Rugby Team.
My spare time is typically spent outdoors. I enjoy most mountain sports, but you will likely find me exploring Utah’s vast mountain ranges on my bike. My other hobbies include getting creative in the kitchen, gardening, and spending time with my adorable Plott Hound/Lab.

My name is David Johns and I have witnessed first hand the importance of nutrition and exercise in promoting an overall healthy lifestyle. Weighing almost 290lbs at the age of 17 and not able to keep up with friends who were much more fit and active than me, I decided to make a change and turn things around in my life. I lost 120lbs with the right balance of nutrition and fitness and a reinvented attitude. I went from a 44” waist to earning the title of Mr. Teen Utah in 2003. I went on to win 7 natural bodybuilding titles before the age of 20. I also worked as a trainer in a gym for a year and realized that clients weren’t getting the results I knew they were capable of because of a lack of specific nutritional knowledge. I made the move to Total Health and Fitness which teaches a three-fold program that encompasses nutrition, fitness and supplements and have been educating clients on HOW AND WHY they need to eat and exercise to reach their goals. I have met with over 1,000 people with goals ranging from losing 100lb of fat weight to gaining muscle, to winning Olympic gold. My clients come in all shapes and sizes! I LOVE what I do because I make lives better each day in THE BEST facility in the state! I encourage anyone with a fitness/wellness goal to tour our facility and come in for a free introduction to see what a customized nutrition and fitness program can do for changing your life.

I have been in the Health and Fitness industry for over 20 years! Time flies when you enjoy what you do. I live what I teach and love helping people find their best overall health and fitness within their lifestyles. Working at Total Health and Fitness allows me the opportunity to work with people of all backgrounds and challenges and to show them that health and fitness is not difficult and it doesn’t need to hurt! The most important part of any health and fitness goal is accountability. It’s important to get a customized nutrition and exercise plan that addresses the individual’s needs and is sustainable for their lifestyle. And meeting with me each week helps the client learn what works best for their goals and how to sustain those goals for life.
Initially, I began my career in the Sports Medicine field, conditioning athletes and treating sports injuries but soon realized I wanted to help individuals of all fitness levels and of all ages. It’s so satisfying to find activities that we enjoy and use them to help us achieve goal(s).
As a personal example, I enjoy hiking, dancing, cleaning my house, walking my dog, working in the yard and other non-traditional exercise activities to stay in cardiovascular shape! As we age through the middle years, bone loss and increases in body fat occur, slowing down our metabolism and setting us up for disease later in life, but this can be avoided with the right nutrition and fun weight training exercises to slow down this aging process! .
In my spare time, I love traveling and finding creative ways to get nutritional and exercise needs in while doing so. It can be done!

I have always had a passion for health and fitness and received a bachelor’s degree from BYU in Exercise and Wellness, and my CPT from NASM. After college I chose to pursue my business interest and open up a family restaurant, O’ Crowley Irish Tacos in Utah County. I lived a very busy lifestyle and didn’t really pay attention to my own personal fitness. I struggled with my health and weight, even though I knew better. I finally decided to get serious and apply my knowledge of nutrition and exercise for my own body transformation. In about 10 months I went from 260 lbs. and 24% body fat, to 195 lbs. and 6% body fat. I enjoyed every minute of my transformation and it deepened my desire to help others and get back into the fitness industry. I am loving this new lifestyle and working as a consultant at Total Health and Fitness. Going through this process has deepened my desire to help others achieve healthy lifestyles and get great results!

As a registered dietitian in the state of Utah with a masters in dietetics from Eastern Michigan University I have a deep passion for teaching others the foundation of good nutrition. Managing health and wellness starts with what we put into our bodies. I am also a Certified Personal Trainer who has a deep passion for helping other people learn how to exercise their bodies to optimize any fitness goal they have. I specialize in helping men and women to lose unwanted fat, while maintaining and even increasing muscle mass. I have successfully coached many men and women to meet and exceed their body transformation goals.
I believe that making a lifestyle of good health is so much more than just the physical transformation. It encompasses mental and emotional health, vitality and a life free from disease and pain. Life is meant to be lived and good health is fundamental to that.
For me personally, I grew up playing sports and loved every minute of it. After high school, I picked up running in order to keep up with my mentality of “always be skinny no matter what.” I seemed to believe that being skinny was very important to fit into social expectations. What I learned is quite the opposite. I was missing out on the exciting body transformation, overall strength and self-confidence aspects of resistance training.I recently set a personal fitness goal myself and took first place in my first bikini competition.
I love to teach others how to have confidence in achieving and maintaining a healthy body they feel good in.

Helping others realize their own potential in health & fitness is what really drives me to be the best nutritionist and personal trainer that I can be. Helping people hit & exceed their goal is always my focus when working with anyone. Some may have a hard time with their nutrition, some exercise, and some may struggle with both; but helping others make the transition and find the joy in taking their health into their own hands & bettering their lives is the ultimate goal. My priority is making sure we are not only improving peoples’ overall health, but ensuring that we find a way for people to enjoy their health journey which in turn helps us make a lifelong change that is not only sustainable, but enjoyable as well!
I initially got into health and fitness to improve my own athletic abilities for football and mixed martial arts. I ended up falling in love with the concept of living a healthy lifestyle based on the fact that I could see an improvement in my physical health, mental health, and life overall from making my health a priority. From there, I ended up competing in multiple NPC (bodybuilding) competitions and earning top spots as the youngest competitor on stage & capturing the overall title in the men’s physique category. I still train Mixed Martial Arts, and am still dedicated to maintaining a lean & athletic physiqe & lifestyle year-round.
I made the move to Total Health and Fitness so I could have the opportunity to work with more people to help them achieve their best overall health and fitness goals.

I graduated from BYU in Exercise & Wellness and obtained my CPT and CNC from NASM. I love helping people bridge the gap between understanding healthy eating and fitness habits and implementing those habits into their lifestyle in a sustainable way. I’ve always had a deep love for fitness and nutrition, and I spent most of my teenage years working as a referee for my hometown’s youth basketball program and participating on my high school’s cross country and track teams. Before working with Total Health and Fitness, I worked as a manager at a popular supplement establishment and as a certified personal trainer at a large comprehensive gym.
After learning so much about health and wellness through both my formal education and personal experiences, I knew I wanted to direct my career path towards helping educate and assist others in their fitness journey. Although my educational background and certifications have given me the formal qualifications, my years of personal experiences with both exercise and nutrition build upon my capacity as a trainer and coach.
I have personal experience with hormonal deficiencies/issues and feel that along with a personalized eating and exercise plan, hormone treatment/therapy can increase optimal overall wellness for those who struggle with hormonal imbalances.
If I’m not at the gym or, you can usually find me out on the lake fishing, boating, backpacking, camping, hunting, water skiing.. spending time in the mountains with my sweet husband and cute puppy girl Tikka!
I am excited to share my education, experience, and passion with you to help assist you along your journey with Total Health and Fitness.
